Yes blogger is the best service for blogging and its free.All you need for blogging you can find easy on one place.Lots of good templates,many nice widgets,you can even track very detailed statistic about your blog traffic.
But ,there is always BUT,blogger does not have any live support...that's so bad and make me very unhappy with using blogger.
I think that any serious web service MUST have live support ,we all have something to ask and only when you ask question about your problem in live you can get good help!
Second while to while blogger like to delete blog without any warning!
When that's happened you have very little chance to have your blog back on line.
The big story is with Google AdSense,yes google AdSense is the best paying in that branch but as publisher you don't have any live support.
So if AdSense stuff decide to delete your account that will do that without any warning.
I'm blogging for near 7 years now and i'm writing this from my own experience.
What i suggest is :all way backup your blog posts,you never know when will blogger decide to delete you.
And Adsense have to big monopoly with this kind of advertising ,to to huge monopoly which make Google AdSense and stuff of google AdSense service very rude and cold in conversation.
We are all only human and human make mistakes,it would be fair to talk with blogger if blogger made mistake and only if blogger does not want to change mistakes delete it!
But as long Google will have monopoly with advertising we will have to accept all Google AdSense rules without word.
the main rule with google AdSense is be quiet and accept all rules with no single complain.
So its on you to add AdSense widgets at your blog or web site.
